Position Title Senior Indigenous Relations Advisor
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous Studies, Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Indigenous relations or a related field, with a strong understanding of Indigenous laws, policies, protocols, and values.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities, governments, organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective Indigenous engagement strategies, initiatives, and policies.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), database management, and online communications tools.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to facilitate dialogue, collaboration, and partnership between different groups.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks, anticipate challenges, and recommend solutions.

Job Description
Keyano College is a comprehensive community institution in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. Keyano College is currently seeking a Senior Indigenous Relations Advisor. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President, Strategy and Business Transformation, this position provides strategic direction to the College to support and advance Keyano’s commitments to reconciliation, based on recognition of rights, respect, cooperation and partnership. The Senior Indigenous Relations Advisor leads the development and implementation of external Indigenous engagement strategies. In addition, the position may provide guidance and support to inform the organization’s internal Diversity & Inclusion initiatives.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide expert advise when incorporating new processes, program delivery, policy & program development, & relationship building though the lens of cultural knowledge
  • Advise the college community with engagement, collaboration initiatives and communication strategies related to indigenous relations.
  • Form and contribute to the development of an Indigenous Advisory Council by acting as Keyano College’s Indigenous Advisory Council administrator.
  • Advise on reconciliation and support Keyano’s relationship with Indigenous peoples by providing expertise with recognition of rights, respect, cooperation & partnership
  • Advise departments regarding the integration of Indigenous engagement into policies, processes, procedures and practices.

Advertised Salary Salary is competitive and includes an attractive health and benefits package. This position qualifies for the Northern Living Allowance of $1,040.00 per month. This allowance is reviewed annually and is subject to budget approval.
